Fortinet and Nvidia integrate cloud firewall with data processing unit for AI security

Fortinet sign at cybersecurity company headquarters

Fortinet Inc. has announced a new integrated solution that embeds its FortiGate-VM virtual cloud firewall directly onto Nvidia's BlueField-3 data processing unit (DPU). This integration aims to enhance security for AI factories and high-performance private cloud environments by moving core security functions to the DPU, thereby preventing any slowdown of critical workloads, according to a recent report by Silicon Angle.

The collaboration between Fortinet and Nvidia brings networking and infrastructure acceleration directly into the compute stack, enabling security functions like firewalling, segmentation, and zero-trust controls to run on the BlueField-3 DPU instead of the host CPU. This offloading is crucial for organizations building high-density accelerated computing clusters and faster data center fabrics to support demanding, latency-sensitive AI workloads.

By embedding security into the infrastructure itself, the solution promises improved isolation, reduced latency, and simplified policy enforcement across hybrid and multicloud environments, including specialized AI factories designed for large-scale model development and training. This integration addresses the growing need for robust security in advanced computing environments, particularly those supporting artificial intelligence.
