Retired Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., told an audience at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business earlier this month that Edward Snowden should be publicly executed when captured.
Chambliss' remarks came in response to a question about recent hacks of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), with the former senator comparing the ramifications of the OPM breach, now that China has classified information on American citizens and CIA personnel, to those of Snowden leaking information on the U.S. government, Buzzfeed said.
“I hope none of you have sympathy for him because we need to hang him on the courthouse square as soon as we get our hands on him,” said the former vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, contending the OPM breach will likely result in the loss of American lives "just like with Snowden."
