Fears of cybersecurity attacks increase among U.S. workers, survey finds

Not only IT security professionals worry about cyber attacks, a new survey from GFI has found.

Of 1,008 surveyed U.S. adults, 32.8 percent reported feeling “a lot more concerned” about a cyber security attack compared to 12 months prior. Additionally, 51 percent of respondents are most concerned that cyber espionage and cyber terrorism could make their lives more difficult, and 44 percent worry personal data could be stolen.

Although the country's most recent massive breach on Anthem has brought the health care sector to the forefront of U.S. citizens' minds, 43 percent of respondents think banks are the main target for cyber criminals this year while 17 percent fear large business institutions will bear the brunt of attacks.

Close to three quarters of respondents also believe major services being hijacked pose a significant threat to national security.
