Facebook teams with security firms to integrate malware removal feature

Facebook has integrated new security capabilities into its abuse detection and prevention systems, so that users are immediately alerted when they log into their accounts from infected devices.

On Tuesday, the social networking company's security team announced the news via a blog post. The team revealed that Facebook worked with Trend Micro and F-Secure to make the free software available to users.

The tools include F-Secure's malware scanning and cleanup technology and Trend Micro's “HouseCall” software, another scanner that checks for and removes malware. Users accessing Facebook via infected devices will be presented with a download notification for F-Secure's or Trend Micro's tool, depending on the threat.

Facebook users can opt not to download the scanner, but those choosing to use the tools can download and run the selected scanner while continuing to peruse the site, the blog post said.
