A former Accenture senior manager has been charged by the US Justice Department for allegedly misleading government clients about the security compliance of a federal cloud platform, Cybernews reports.
According to the indictment, the defendant, Hillmer, repeatedly misrepresented that the product met Department of Defense and FedRAMP security requirements, despite knowing that key controls were not implemented. Prosecutors allege the misconduct occurred between March 2020 and November 2021 and included concealing deficiencies from auditors and directing colleagues to do the same. The filing states that Hillmer falsely claimed the platform had required access controls, logging, and monitoring capabilities, even after receiving warnings about unresolved gaps.
She is also accused of making misleading statements to the US Army to secure sponsorship for a provisional DoD authorization. The case appears connected to a 2023 SEC disclosure by Accenture Federal Services, which reported a voluntary submission to the government regarding potentially inaccurate security assessments. Hillmer, most recently employed by SentinelOne, faces charges including wire fraud, major government fraud, and obstruction of a federal audit.
