Two internet service providers (ISP) were ordered to unblock the popular torrent website The Pirate Bay after a court decided that the ban was an ineffective tactic against privacy.
The providers, XS4ALL and Ziggo, were required to block user access to the site since January 2012 after a Dutch anti-piracy organization, BREIN, filed a lawsuit against them, according to a report by technology website, The Verge.
On Tuesday, the Court of Appeals in The Hague, Netherlands, ruled that the block was no longer enforced after a study indicated that users were easily thwarting the block and still downloading copyrighted material regardless of the ban.
While The Pirate Bay is still blocked on other ISPs, those bans are expected to be lifted as a result of Tuesday's judgment.
