Two Romanian nationals planted a card skimmer at a bank ATM in Brooklyn, New York and were arrested two hours later.
Laurentiu Baies, 35, and Marcel Boariu, 36, installed the skimmer at a Brooklyn Chase branch, according to The New York Times. Not knowing they were being watched, when the duo returned to collect the device they were apprehended by plainclothes police officers.
A New York detective told The Times that criminals are opting to leave the skimmers for shorter periods of time for quick hits. The men were charged with burglary, criminal possession for a forgery device and criminal possession of a skimmer device.
New York has had card skimming issues in the past. In January a Brooklyn man was prosecuted for targeting a Chinese buffet with a skimming device and stealing at least 30 credit card numbers.
