DDoS attack hits VoIP provider Bandwidth

Threat actors have launched a distributed denial-of-service attack against voice over internet protocol provider Bandwidth, resulting in voice outages nationwide beginning on Saturday, reports BleepingComputer.

"Bandwidth is investigating an incident impacting Voice and Messaging Services. Calls and Messages may experience unexpected failures. All teams are actively engaged," said Bandwidth on its status page.

The DDoS attack on Bandwidth follows outages reported by other VoIP vendors Twilio, DialPad, RingCentral, Phone.com and Accent, all of which attributed the outage to another upstream provider.

"The upstream provider has indicated that service has returned to normal operation. We will continue to monitor this situation and report any new information as it becomes available," said Accent on its status page.

On the other hand, Twilio said that they have experienced issues with Bandwidth yesterday, after initially mentioning that it was not impacted by the Bandwidth attack.

Meanwhile, threat actors spoofing the REvil ransomware group have also attacked VoIP provider VoIP.ms earlier this month, demanding a ransom of 100 bitcoins, or $4.5 million.
