TechRepublic reports that Taiwan had its critical infrastructure subjected to an average of 2.63 million cyberattacks daily last year, or 6% higher than in 2024, with China behind most of the intrusions.

Hybrid warfare efforts by China have led to a 113% increase in average daily cyber incidents between 2023 and 2025, a report from Taiwan's National Security Bureau revealed. Attacks, which include distributed denial-of-service and man-in-the-middle operations, have been primarily aimed at energy systems, emergency rescue services, and hospitals.

Aside from intensifying cyber activity during political events in Taiwan, China has also launched cyberespionage campaigns to obtain intelligence on the semiconductor sector and other advanced technologies as part of its efforts to remain competitive with the U.S.

"The move was an attempt to support China's self-reliance in technology and economic development and prevent China from being put in a disadvantaged position in the U.S.-China technology competition," said the report.
