Android-targeted cyberattacks most significantly increased in the energy, healthcare, government, and transportation industries from June 2024 to May 2025, as such threats plummeted in the agriculture, IT, and education sectors, reports Cybersecurity Dive.Manufacturing, energy, and retail organizations have had their mobile devices mostly targeted due to their "substantial returns," while the "interconnectedness" of the energy and healthcare industries is being exploited for maximum impact and financial returns, according to an analysis from Zscaler.Additional findings revealed a surge in intrusions against Internet of Things devices, particularly in the manufacturing, energy, education, construction, transportation, and government sectors. Most IoT attacks have been aimed at the U.S., followed by Hong Kong and Germany. Combating mobile and IoT security threats necessitates the stringent tracking of suspicious user behaviors and remote access platforms, as well as the implementation of robust access controls, accurate asset inventories, and network segmentation, said Zscaler researchers.
