Cloud security risks shift to control plane, experts warn

Ahead of World Cloud Security Day, executives from Adactin, ClickHouse, and Fastly highlighted emerging cloud security risks beyond traditional perimeter defenses, reports Security Brief Australia.

Adactin's Giri Jayaprakash said most cloud incidents now begin with valid access, not technical exploits, with attackers targeting identities, permissions, and automation pipelines in the control plane. He warned of identity and permission drift at scale, as non-human identities and service accounts are created rapidly while governance remains periodic and manual, creating a systemic risk.

ClickHouse's Paul Davis said the volume of security telemetry is growing exponentially, and traditional batch-oriented tools encourage teams to reduce what they ingest, causing granular threat details to be aggregated away. He said newer platforms like ClickHouse unify logs, traces, and metrics into a single analytical layer for sub-second queries across billions of events.

Fastly's Guy Brown said the "complexity tax" of managing disconnected security tools has become a measurable liability, urging consolidation of controls at the network edge where real-time visibility and global policy enforcement are possible.
