A critical flaw in this model is the assumption that recovery tools will remain operational during an outage, when in fact, a provider's management infrastructure can also be compromised. This leaves businesses, particularly regulated entities like banks and hospitals with data residency mandates, in a precarious position with no alternative region to migrate to. The "fog of war" during such outages forces engineers to improvise, leading to recovery times measured in days rather than minutes. Modern resilience requires vendor portability, pre-built encrypted connectivity between cloud environments, separating monitoring and command centers from primary data locations, and automating failover processes to be executable code rather than static documents. Multi-cloud networking enables automatic rerouting of traffic within 60 seconds, allowing for a split-compute strategy that keeps data local while shifting processing, turning catastrophic recovery into a manageable transition.Source: Information Week
