Check Point to acquire mobile security company Lacoon

Check Point Software Technologies will acquire mobile security company Lacoon Mobile Security, the Israeli data security firm said Thursday.

Check Point plans to use Lacoon's technology, which includes a mobile threat management program for Android and iOS devices, to expand its mobile security platform, according to a release. Noting that "mobility has become the norm in business operations," Gil Shwed, CEO and chairman of Check Point, said in the release that “companies are not necessarily protecting the data on mobile devices properly."

The service also monitors the company's network and delivers real-time intelligence to the organization's security personnel. Reports say that Check Point paid around $80 million for the acquisition but neither side will comment, according to ZDnet. Lacoon was founded in 2011 and is based in San Francisco.
