For California minors second-guessing information they've shared online, there's now a way to “delete” the mistake, so to speak.
On Monday, California Gov. Edmund "Jerry" Brown signed legislation (Senate Bill 568) which requires operators of websites, mobile apps and other online services to remove content or information posted by residents under the age of 18, who request the removal.
Starting in 2016, operators would either be required to rid of the postings themselves, or permit minors, who are registered users of their site, service or application, to remove the content they posted.
Operators would not be required to delete content reposted by third parties or remove information from their servers – they would only have to make sure the content was no longer publicly viewable.
