Broadcom has secured a 10-year agreement with the Japanese telecommunications company NTT DoCoMo to provide comprehensive support for VMware Cloud Foundation, based on information published by SDx Central.
The partnership marks the first decade-long comprehensive agreement for Broadcom’s Japanese unit, covering licenses, maintenance and technical assistance. The companies have collaborated since 2019, with NTT DoCoMo utilizing VMware Cloud Foundation for its private cloud architecture. This deal aims to bolster the telecommunications firm against sophisticated cyberattacks and AI-driven threats by leveraging recent security updates. Beyond security, NTT DoCoMo intends to use this infrastructure to support the development of 6G services and the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network all-photonics concept. Hiroshi Ishimaru, the general manager of the service design department at NTT DoCoMo, stated that the agreement will allow the firm to respond flexibly to market changes while ensuring service stability. Paul Turner, the chief product officer for the VMware Cloud Foundation division at Broadcom, noted that the collaboration will provide a unified platform for virtual machines, containers and AI workloads. This long-term commitment strengthens existing ties between Broadcom and the broader NTT Group, which already includes official cloud service provider and partnership designations.
