Bitdefender has released a public beta of AI Guardian, a new macOS security tool designed to monitor and control the actions of autonomous AI agents, as reported by Tech Radar. These agents are increasingly being granted access to sensitive data and tools, creating new security vulnerabilities.

AI Guardian acts as a security checkpoint, examining actions requested by AI agents before they are executed. The software supports initial versions of Claude Code and OpenClaw, operating in the background to compare operations against user-defined rules. Each action is either allowed, flagged, or blocked, with all decisions logged for auditing. The tool aims to prevent malicious instructions from causing unauthorized operations, such as accessing sensitive credentials or system files.

Bitdefender's research highlights the significant risk, with AI agents being successfully manipulated in over a third of tested scenarios. The company notes that as AI agents become extensions of users, securing the agents themselves is crucial. AI Guardian is currently free during its beta phase for macOS users, with plans for broader operating system support in the future.
