Australian organisations are boosting cloud security spending and confidence, yet new data shows visibility gaps are undermining real cyber resilience, according to Security Brief Australia.
According to Australian findings from the 2025 Global Cloud Detection and Response Report, 92% of organisations plan to increase cloud security investment, and most CISOs express strong confidence in detecting lateral movement and cloud risks.
However, the report found that 40% of network traffic still lacks sufficient context, while 45% struggle with east-west visibility, the highest rate globally. Alert overload remains a major challenge, with Australian security teams receiving more than 2,000 alerts daily and 83% unable to investigate them all. Nearly all respondents reported business impact from missed alerts, including downtime, burnout, and reputational damage.
When lateral movement incidents occur, Australian organisations suffer the highest average downtime and financial losses worldwide. Despite widespread adoption of advanced detection tools, 97% cited serious limitations due to alert fatigue and fragmented insight. The findings suggest that context, not tools or spending, is the critical missing layer in Australia's cloud security posture.
