Akamai launches Prolexic Network Cloud Firewall

SDxCentral reports that Akamais Prolexic distributed denial-of-service platform has received a new cloud-based expansion called Network Cloud Firewall. With the new offering, Akamais Prolexic users will now have more control over their network edge deployments by being able to define their own access control lists and manage them. For example, users have the option to block malicious traffic through proactive defense strategies that they define themselves or move rules to their edge deployments in order to ease the burden on local infrastructure. The new capability comes as the DDoS threat landscape continues to increase in complexity, with Akamai reporting last year that the number of expensive, difficult layer-seven DDoS attacks has increased. DDoS extortion, application assaults and targeted attacks against internet-facing infrastructure continue to pose a threat to organizations across all industries globally, the Akamai security team said in its report. The targets of DDoS attackers are specifically chosen and executed against. These attacks are more personal; sometimes, they're even politically motivated.
