At the annual Chaos Communication Congress on Friday, German researchers demonstrated a new malware attack against ATM machines.

A variant of the Zeus P2P/Gameover trojan has been identified that will allow an attacker to take over the account of anyone using China's biggest Bitcoin platform, BTC China.

The number of infected computers in the U.S. outpaced, by far, infections in other countries, a security firm found.

Malware disguising itself as a Firefox add-on has ensnared more than 12,500 PCs in a botnet that, since May, has uncovered more than 1,800 vulnerable websites.

A malicious app, known as mToken, has infected more than 2,000 mobile devices and intercepted at least 25,000 SMS messages, researchers found.

The malware, dubbed "ISN," is masked as a module for Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) web-hosting software, Trustwave found.

Microsoft announced on Thursday that its Digital Crimes Unit - in conjunction with the FBI, Europol's EC3 and technology companies such as A10 Networks - has disrupted a botnet that targets search engines and browsers.

The botnet is reportedly behind the compromise of more than 20,000 payment cards in recent months.
