Cloud Security

Cloud: From both sides now

Share

While cloud vendors vie for dominance in attracting customers with their promises of data access anywhere, and better security than a company might be able to provide for itself, the bottom line is that client companies are responsible for their data, regardless of where it resides.

Compliance to government and industry regulations does not mean a company is secure and being secure does not mean a company is in compliance. Some experts advise that potential customers first do a risk analysis to determine the value of the assets they plan to move to the cloud, and then determine the appropriate amount of security needed to protect those assets.

In any case, with the cost savings potential and convenience of being able to access corporate data from anywhere, the evolution of the cloud is only going to grow. The challenge is that cloud providers must be able to ensure their customers have the level of security they need, while users must perform their due diligence to make certain they are contracting with the appropriate partner.

This latest ebook from SC Magazine surveys the latest cloud developments to offer the best practices both users and cloud providers can implement to provide the data assurance needed in these vulnerable times.
