The problem is secure collaboration. There are lots of issues here for us to contemplate. First, how do today's users collaborate? Second, how secure is the collaboration? The answer to the first is pretty simple, depending on the organization. Typically, when files are not too large, it's email. For larger files, something such as Dropbox is the usual choice. As to the security issue, the answer is that there is very little, if any. So the way this usually is solved is by encrypting the file and doing some sort of out-of-band password exchange. Alternatively, public key encryption works. But there is a better way. Consider the encryption, use whatever cloud provider you wish, and let everything happen under the covers. Easy, fast and secure. That's the ticket.

nCryptedCloud does not provide storage. Rather, it adds a layer of encryption between the user and the storage provider. The file is encrypted on the local computer and then synched into the storage provider as usual. It provides a sophisticated key management scheme based, essentially, on public key encryption. However, the user never interacts with the underlying mechanism directly so there is nothing to complicate - and, thus deter - its use.

We liked this service for its simplicity from the user perspective, its reasonable cost and the availability of a free version. This is especially useful for the organization that does not wish to develop its own secure cloud but realizes that it is difficult to control user access to cloud-based storage services. Thus, a safe way to deal with the problem is needed and this fits the need. We recommend that you try the free version and then consider the commercial version with its additional bells and whistles.
