The install of this appliance is almost plug and play. The base of the appliance is the Windows Server 2008 operating system, which then has all the applications and web interface already preinstalled, so everything is pretty much ready to go out of the box from an installation standpoint. Configuration is a whole other story. This product can be run with a default configuration to establish a base to build off of, but then it can be finetuned with granular controls for a true sense of vulnerability and risk throughout the enterprise.
Once a base scan has been completed, the administrator can go in and manage discovered assets and group them based on their criticality and other settings. This helps more accurately determine risk, as well as level of vulnerability. All these settings, as well as other configuration of the appliance, is done through an easy-to-navigate web GUI.
Documentation included a full installation guide, as well as a product manual. Both these PDF guides provided in-depth, easy-to-understand details.
McAfee provides many levels of support to customers to meet the needs of various environment types. Some features include 24/7 phone and email technical support, hardware warranty and online interactive support.
At a price just shy of $17,000 for the appliance, software licenses, scanning of 1,000 IPs and a year of the gold support program, we find this appliance to be a good value for the money. This product offers a multitude of features wrapped up together in an easy-to-use-and-manage appliance.
