- Ransomware gang claims Deloitte UK
Deloitte UK has reportedly suffered a significant cyber incident, with the Brain Cipher ransomware gang claiming responsibility for the attack.
The group alleges that they have exfiltrated over 1 terabyte (1TB) of data from Deloitte UK. The stolen data reportedly includes evidence of security protocol violations, contractual agreements, security tools and monitoring systems, and compromised client data.
The ransomware gang has set a countdown timer for the release of a sample of the stolen data, giving Deloitte until December 15, 2024, to respond.
Brain Cipher uses a modified version of the LockBit 3.0 builder for its encryption tool and employs phishing and spear-phishing as primary initial access vectors.
Deloitte UK has not yet publicly confirmed the breach. This follows a previous breach in late September by the CyberN-----s ransomware gang.
The potential consequences of this breach are substantial, including financial losses, reputational damage, and legal repercussions.
The incident is particularly embarrassing for Deloitte, which offers a comprehensive range of cyber services.
The alleged hack highlights the persistent and evolving threat posed by ransomware attacks and underscores the need for robust cybersecurity practices.
