VPN and firewall market up 11 per cent in Q1

Share

VPN and firewall revenue has risen by 11 per cent at $733 million in the first quarter of 2004.

According to research from Infonetics, the market is expected to grow by 12 per cent to $823 million by the first quarter of 2005.

Most vendors reported single-digit growth this year, but Cisco had a phenomenal quarter, driving the market to double-digit growth.

"Appliances in the middle price-bands ($1,500 to $10,000) and application security gateways drive growth in 2004 and beyond," said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "That's because of broadband VPN deployments, upgrades of firewalls, and SSL VPN for enterprise remote access."

Juniper was the leader of the SSL VPN (application security gateway) market, which was reported for the first time in 1Q04.

Cisco was the worldwide revenue leader, showing an increase in total VPN and firewall appliance and software revenue in 1Q04 and strong growth across the board.
