Viruses and worms could find new targets this year, including embedded computers in cars and satellite communication systems, according to IBM.
In its 2004 Global Business Security Index Report, IBM's Global Security Intelligence Services said malware could spread aggressively this year to handheld devices, cell phones, wireless networks and embedded computers.
"Mobile devices such as PDAs and cell phones are the new frontier for viruses, spam, and other potential security threats," according to the report.
Attackers also likely will target voice over IP (VoIP) networks by remotely eavesdropping and launching denial of service attacks, which could result in significant damage for enterprises, officials said in their report.
