When Snowden leaks suggested that nation-states were utilizing Microsoft error reports to conduct targeted attacks on organizations, researchers began to investigate the issue. Realizing that there was limited awareness regarding the reports' frequency, as well as the information that's included in them, researchers at Websense discovered an advanced persistent threat that successfully hit some organizations.
