Taking on the pirates – Russian style

Share

A Russian software company will try to even the score with software pirates with its fists.

An employee from Moscow-based Cognitive Technologies resorted to boxing rules rather than the rule of law to fight a man who was illegally selling the company's software.

Last February, Software department manager Andrei Smirnov witnessed the dealer selling copies of his company's software without a license at a Moscow computer fair.

After Smirnov insisted the man stop selling the software, a fracas broke out and guards piled in to stop the fight. However, Smirnov wanted to continue the fight at a local health club.

According to Russian news site news.ru, Smirnov challenged the pirate to a three-round boxing match. The unnamed illegal dealer was beaten on a 24-16 points decision. It is not known if the company will settle all other piracy issues the same way in the future.
