What happened? Hackers breached the e-commerce server of Voxant, provider of news and ad syndication for the web, stealing credit card numbers from customers.
How many people affected? 4,500.
Details: The card numbers were encrypted but the crooks apparently were able to access the key in the application database.
What was the response? The company no longer stores credit card numbers and plans to sign on with a security service provider. The company also notified victims in a letter, suggesting they change their credit card account numbers.
