Radisson Hotels breached

Radisson Hotels on Wednesday revealed that its computer systems were illegally accessed, potentially exposing hotel guests' credit card information.

How many victims? Unknown.

What type of personal information? Customer names, credit and debit card numbers, and expiration dates. Social Security numbers were not affected.

What happened? Few details have been revealed, except that between November 2008 and May 2009 the computer systems of some Radisson hotels in the U.S. and Canada were illegally accessed. It is unclear which Radisson hotels were affected.

What was the response? An open letter to guests was posted on Radisson’s website and individuals who stayed at Radisson during the time of compromise may be eligible for free credit monitoring. An investigation involving federal law enforcement is currently underway. In addition, Radisson has implemented additional security measures to prevent future intrusions.
