Microsoft re-released on Thursday one of the four fixes it had distributed as part of this month's Patch Tuesday.
MS07-002, a fix for Microsoft Excel, was updated on Thursday to better protect against security issues in Excel 2000.
Christopher Budd, Microsoft Security Program Manager, said on the Microsoft Security Response Center blog on Thursday that the issue lies in the processing of foreign language files.
"After release, we discovered that the security update did not correctly process the phonetic information that is embedded in files that are created by using Excel in Korean, Chinese or Japanese executable mode," he said.
Office users with a version of the program other than Excel 2000 don't have to worry about the update, Budd said.
"If you're not running Excel 2000, this re-release doesn't apply to you and you don't need to take any action," he said.
MS07-002, ranked "critical" by Microsoft, protects against remote code execution.
