ISP Fast24 has advised customers to ignore emails after its support forum was hacked into over the weekend.
Hackers used the registered user database to send emails to Fast24 customers asking them to reveal personal details in a simple phishing email.
"It was a very obvious email with obvious discrepancies," said Stacey Brain, IT support manager at Fast24. "It asked for information but was clear it was not from us. We've mailed the database and warned them to disregard anything the email says."
The British-based company is currently trying to patch up the vulnerability. The website, currently displaying a message saying, "Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later." Is expected to be back online "within hours".
It is not the first time phishing scams have hit headlines in recent weeks. Last week SC reported fraudsters are starting to use a technique which allow them to exploit weaknesses in banking websites to display contents from any arbitrary URL within a frame.
And earlier this month it was revealed that a new US Anti-phishing Act is only weeks away.
