Hackers access U. of Rochester database

Hackers broke into a University of Rochester database and illegally copied personal information about students to an off-campus IP address.

How many victims? 450.

What type of personal information? Social Security numbers and other unspecified personal information.

What was the response? Affected individuals are being notified by the University and will receive one year of credit monitoring and insurance. An investigation is currently underway and the school has notified the FBI, the state Attorney General, the Consumer Protection Board and the Office of Cyber Security about the incident.

Quote: “Our network security staff have taken immediate, concrete steps to minimize the chances of this happening again,” Provost Ralph Kuncl said in a press release.
