A crowdfunding effort aimed at purchasing the next batch of exploits expected to be released by the infamous Shadow Brokers hacking collective has shut down.
Started by Matthew Hickey of My Hacker House, as well as a researcher that goes by the alias x0rz, the campaign hoped to raise $25,000 to be a part of the recently announced exploit subscription service run by the Shadow Brokers.
Just last week more details on the service were released by the group, such as the monthly fee.
“Monthly dump is being for high rollers, hackers, security companies, OEMs, and governments,” the group wrote. “Question to be asking ‘Can my organization afford not to be first to get access to theshadowbrokers dumps.”
Attorneys, law enforcement and others in the security industry advised Hickey to shut down the campaign, according to a full report by Threat Post.
“It transpires that should funds change hands from ours to the Shadow Brokers, we would be certainly risking some form of legal complications,” Hickey wrote in a Twitter statement.
