Bridgeport, Conn., schools hit with ransomware

Share

The Bridgeport, Conn., school district was hit with a ransomware attack last weekend.

The Connecticut Post reported the district’s IT department became aware of the problem and worked over the weekend to limit the damage caused and to begin recovery efforts. Schools Superintendent Aresta Johnson told the Post no data was compromised and while it was not officially stated that the malicious actors gained entrance to the system through a phishing attempt, all district employees were told to change their email passwords and to not bring in any personal computer equipment.

The attack did not affect PowerSchool, the system used to store student information. The district is working on the problem with the Multi-StateInformation Sharing and Analysis Center of the Department of Homeland Security.
