The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning consumers about online scams that may pop up in the wake of the elementary school shooting in Newton, Conn.
The ruses may include sites that pretend to be raising money for the families of the victims of the shooting spree, which left 20 children and six adults dead, but actually are intent on stealing money or serving malware.
On Tuesday, the BBB posted ten giving tips on its website.
“Don't assume that charity recommendations on Facebook, blogs or other social media [sites] have already been vetted," one of the recommendations said.
The family of now-deceased Noah Pozner, 6, has already notified authorities about scams underway.
Alexis Haller, the uncle of 6-year-old Pozner, who died in the attack, told CNN Thursday that fraudsters already have erected a fake site claiming to raise money for the boy's family.
