Authenex to release “driverless” USB hybrid token

Authenex said it will release a USB hybrid token to support the USB Chip/Smart Card Interface Devices (CCID) specification by the end of the second quarter.

Support for CCID in the new Authenex A-Key v3 Token eliminates the need for a device-specific driver, making it "driverless," Henry Hon, Authenex executive vice president, said at the RSA Conference last month.

The product provides the option of either challenge/response or One-Time-Password (OTP) to authenticate remote VPN, LAN or web users through the Authenex authentication server.

"Most people realize user name and password is weak" for authentication," Hon said.

In addition, A-Key v3 supports VeriSign's Open Authentication Reference Architecture (OATH) initiative, which aims to drive adoption of two-factor authentication by allowing secure credentials to be verified by multiple platforms.
