Market volatility can have big implications for security companies as well as their customers. When handled well, they can drive efficiency and improve services. When handled badly, they can result in financial losses or even widespread discontent.

While it was a tough year for investors, the cybersecurity market was still active. This category recognizes a unique and creative approach by an investment banking firm or professional to a merger, acquisition or initial public offering of a cybersecurity company, which closed during calendar year 2022.

Mimecast – Deal of the Year

Mimecast, a leading email security company, completed a $5.8 billion acquisition by global equity firm Permira in May 2022. The deal facilitated Mimecast’s strategic growth, expanded its resources, and supplemented recruitment. Permira’s “growth first, product first” philosophy aligned with Mimecast’s mission and values, providing a solid foundation for their partnership. Under CEO Peter Bauer’s leadership, Mimecast has maintained market growth amidst the acquisition process. Permira’s resources have enabled Mimecast to expand its product capabilities and go-to-market strategy. The company has since announced the X1 Platform and Email Security, Cloud Integrated (CI), enhancing its offerings to current and future customers. The acquisition supported Mimecast’s geographic expansion, with the opening of a Singapore office and plans for expansion in South Africa, the UK, continental Europe, and North America.
