»Rick Miller has been appointed by information security firm Trustwave to serve in the newly created role of chief operations officer. Miller will support the company's growth and global expansion plans in cybersecurity and managed security services. Miller previously served as VP of managed security services and service optimization at Hewlett Packard Enterprise and prior to that was IBM's director of security consulting after joining the company as head of managed security services.
»Multinational technology firm Cisco announced its intent to acquire the San Jose-based cloud management platform CliQr Technologies for $260 million in cash and assumed equity awards, plus retention-based incentives. Cisco said the acquisition will help customers simplify and accelerate their private, public and hybrid cloud deployments and will make it easier for them to automate and manage application policies across the entire data center stack. Cisco plans to integrate CliQr across its data center portfolio. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of fiscal year 2016.
»Israel-based startup cybersecurity firm Team 8 raised $23 million in Series B funding. A year ago, the company raised $18 million, which brings its current fundraising to $41 million. The firm's most recent investors included AT&T, Accenture and Nokia. Team 8 plans to use the money to launch five cybersecurity companies. Two are expected to launch this year, one will focus on protecting industrial firm's networks and another will provide data breach cleanup services to businesses victimized by hacks.
»Scottsdale, Ariz.-based authentication solutions firm Trusona raised $8 million in Series A funding led by KPCB (Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers). The firm has already unveiled an iOS mobile identity authentication technology that is geared toward enterprises with sensitive access, including health care firms, banks, brokerages houses and companies in need of more stringent admin authentication.
»Anil Varghese has joined Dallas-based collision repair shop Service King as the company's first ever chief information security officer. Varghese has nearly 20 years of experience working in cybersecurity. He will spend his first three months assessing Service King's systems and developing a plan to bolster the firm's data security.
»Palo Alto, Calif.-based cloud security firm Vera raised $17 million in Series B funding led by Sutter Hill Ventures. To date, the firm has raised more than $31 million in total funding.
»Mike McConnell has joined Los Angeles-based security analytics firm Securonix as a senior advisory board member. McConnell was previously the U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Vice Admiral. McConnell was named DNI in 2007 by President George Bush and previously served as director of the National Security Agency (NSA) from 1992-1996.
