Wrigley Field fans targeted by skimming scam

Share

A group of six has been charged in the latest scam to defraud bank customers through the use of skimming devices, a trend that has seen a noticeable uptick in arrests and prosecutions over the past year. In this case, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced Friday that at the behest of Joseph Woods, 32, five people who were employed at Chicago restaurants, including some at Wrigley Field, swiped cards through small readers to steal the numbers. Woods then used that information to create fake cards and make some $200,000 in purchases. Each defendant was booked on conspiracy to commit a financial crime, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Some were hit with additional charges.
