White House launches effort to bolster chemical sector cybersecurity

The White House has unveiled a new cybersecurity action plan for the U.S. chemical industry, which includes a Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency-led 100-day sprint aimed at strengthening threat intelligence sharing between the sector and the federal government, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. Such an action plan would take into account and tailor lessons and best practices from previous efforts for the pipeline, electric, and water sectors for the chemical industry, according to the White House. Moreover, the plan would also prompt the creation of a coordinating council of 15 chemical industry groups for obtaining feedback on strengthening the industry's cyber defenses. "Strengthening the resiliency of US critical infrastructure to protect the services Americans rely on is hallmark of our cybersecurity strategy. Today, we delivered on our commitment by expanding our public-private partnership to the chemical sector," wrote National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson in a tweet.
