The Wireless Broadband Alliance has published a comprehensive Wi-Fi Security Guidelines framework designed to impose a consistent, standards-based security posture across the fragmented landscape of public, enterprise, IoT, and roaming networks, aiming to elevate Wi-Fi protections to parity with cellular-grade reliability, according to Security Brief United Kingdom.

The report mandates mutual authentication through certificate validation to thwart rogue access points, specifies WPA3-Enterprise with Protected Management Frames, and details techniques like anonymous identities to preserve user privacy while accommodating lawful intercept and billing requirements. Tiago Rodrigues, president and CEO of the alliance, asserted that aligning security across devices and networks enables Wi-Fi to achieve "parity with cellular in security capability and confidence."

The guidance extends deep into infrastructure, covering encrypted RADIUS traffic, secure backhaul design, and federation governance under the WRIX legal framework to clarify responsibilities across identity providers and hub operators. With backing from industry heavyweights including Cisco, AT&T, and Boldyn Networks, the initiative seeks to eliminate the operational risks and interoperability friction that arise from inconsistent security implementations in an era of pervasive wireless connectivity.
