US withdraws membership from multiple international cyber orgs

The U.S. has decided to depart from international cybersecurity organizations Global Forum on Cyber Expertise, the Online Freedom Coalition, and the European Centre of Excellence, along with 66 other global coalitions, which were regarded by the Trump administration as unnecessary and mismanaged, reports CyberScoop.

All of the international organizations have been slammed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio over their gender equity campaigns, DEI mandates, and other activities that purportedly hinder U.S. sovereignty. Such a decision of the Trump administration to withdraw from the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise Foundation was noted by cybersecurity advocates to be detrimental to data security and human rights.

"Americans should be concerned that their government is abandoning longstanding efforts to advance democracy, defend human rights online, and stop the abuses of spyware, particularly as free expression comes under attack from governments around the world including our own," said Center for Democracy and Technology President Alexandra Givens.
