Tech Radar reports that the White House has accused China of orchestrating an industrial-scale campaign to steal artificial intelligence models from American developers.

According to a White House memo, Chinese entities allegedly used tens of thousands of proxy accounts and jailbreaking techniques to systematically extract capabilities from U.S. frontier AI systems. This marks a significant escalation in accusations, with the White House stating there is "nothing innovative" about such methods. These allegations come ahead of a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. This is not the first time China has faced accusations of stealing U.S. technology, with previous allegations involving aerospace secrets and industrial technology.

The accusation is likely to further strain U.S.-China relations, especially as the U.S. Congress considers significant export control measures aimed at preventing China's access to advanced U.S. technology, particularly high-powered chips.
