U.S. Officials claim U.S. election safe from Russian email hacks – for now

U.S. officials believe the upcoming presidential election is safe from Russian email hacks – for now.

Officials are confident that defensive measures that were set up by the U.S. and its allies have blocked the cyber paths that Russian hackers have been using to steal emails from  high-profile Democrats and other prominent Americans to make their information public through WikiLeaks and similar sites, according to an Oct. 19 NBC News report.

Although hackers may continue to release information in days to come, none of the material is from after March 2016 as officials believe hackers may be holding onto old information that they have yet to release.

The news comes not long after the CIA announced that is readying itself for a cyber-attack on Russia  as spies have been tasked with coming up with options for “wide-ranging ‘clandestine' cyber operation designed to harass and 'embarrass' the Kremlin leadership" in retaliation for the alleged interference the country has caused.
