Both the 2015 Cybersecurity Information Security Act and the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program have been extended until Jan. 30, 2026, after President Donald Trump approved the federal funding bill, which concludes the 43-day government shutdown that is the longest on record, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.

With the spending legislation only providing a temporary renewal for both cybersecurity laws, the House Homeland Security Committee will be collaborating with other members of the House and Senate in crafting long-term solutions for reauthorizing the measures, according to committee Chair Andrew Garbarino, R-N.Y. Such a fix was regarded by McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security Director Frank Cilluffo as highly crucial not only for the U.S.'s critical infrastructure but also its national and economic security.

"Congress must move quickly to enact longer-term reauthorizations to provide the continuity needed to defend and protect critical systems from growing cybersecurity threats," said Cilluffo.
