An unnamed 17-year-old man from Norway was arrested and charged early last week with launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against several banks and other companies in the country, according to reports by newsinenglish.no.
Danske Bank, DNB, NetCom, Nordea, Norges Bank, Norwegian, SAS, Sparebank 1, Storebrand, Telenor and Widerøe were among the companies impacted in the attacks, according to the reports.
Early speculation led to Anonymous being fingered for the attacks, but the loosely knit band of hacktivists quickly denied involvement. Following his arrest, the teenager revealed that he posed as an active member of the group in order to shed light on overlooked security flaws.
The charges come with a prison sentence of as many as six years, but the teen will likely receive less due to him being a minor and having no prior record, according to the reports.
