Spanish authorities have apprehended four individuals suspected of being key members of the hacktivist group Anonymous Fénix, which is believed to have conducted cyberattacks against government ministries, political parties, and public institutions. The group, which claimed affiliation with the broader Anonymous collective, utilized distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and social media platforms to spread anti-government messages and recruit new members, with further coverage provided by Bleeping Computer.Anonymous Fénix initiated its cyberattacks in April 2023, escalating its activities significantly after the Valencia floods in late October 2024. The group targeted various public administration websites, attributing the storm's devastation to government negligence. The Spanish Civil Guard arrested the group's administrator and moderator in May 2025, followed by the apprehension of two more active members earlier this month. Authorities also ordered the seizure of the group's social media accounts and the closure of its Telegram channel. These arrests highlight Spain's ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime, following recent operations that dismantled a crime-as-a-service platform and apprehended suspects linked to the Black Axe crime ring.Source: Bleeping Computer
