Audio streaming platform SoundCloud announced on Monday that it was the target of a security breach, during which hackers gained access to limited user data. This announcement follows a period of service disruptions that affected many users, particularly those accessing the platform via VPNs, according to HackRead. The breach was discovered in an internal service system dashboard, and SoundCloud has since contained the activity. An estimated 20% of its user base, potentially millions of accounts, may have been affected. The compromised data includes user email addresses and information publicly available on user profiles. SoundCloud has stated that no sensitive financial data, passwords, or payment details were accessed. The cyber extortion group ShinyHunters is reportedly responsible for the attack and is allegedly pressuring SoundCloud for a ransom.Prior to the public announcement, users experienced service issues, which SoundCloud attributed to security response measures. The platform also faced multiple denial-of-service attacks that temporarily disrupted web access. SoundCloud is advising users to be vigilant against potential phishing attempts and to enable two-factor authentication for enhanced security.Source: HackRead
