Sony attacked, investigating ‘an IT matter,’ according to reports

Sony Pictures Entertainment appears to have been the victim of an attack on Monday.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Sony said it is investigating “an IT matter.” Sony did not respond to a SCMagazine.com request for comment.

The potential issue began when an image of a skeleton appeared on employee computers along with a message stating, “Hacked By #GOP,” and that “internal data” would be released publicly if demands are not met. An anonymous reddit user seems to have initially posted the image and about the issue.

A source at Sony told Variety that the issue could take one day to three weeks to resolve, and that employees should turn off their computers and not connect to corporate networks or access email. Other Sony divisions are unaffected, the report adds.

Bloomberg reported that the group is called “Guardians of Peace.”
