Snowden considering return to U.S. for trial, lawyer says

Negotiations may be underway for Edward Snowden to return to the U.S. where he's likely to face criminal charges filed against him after he snagged and distributed documents detailing the National Security Agency (NSA) mass surveillance program, according to his Russian lawyer.

After nearly two years as a fugitive, Snowden, who was granted three years residency in Russia, “wants to turn back home,”  Anatoly Kucherena said at a press conference, according to Reuters, adding that he's working with U.S. and German lawyers to negotiate his return. Kucherena appeared at the press conference to promote his book about the fugitive whistleblower.

Whether Snowden should be prosecuted or pardoned has been a topic of hot debate since he first began to release information in June 2013 through journalist Glenn Greenwald.

He has indicated that he would return to U.S. shores if he could get a fair trial.
